This grocery store cashier was the workhorse of their manager's dwindling team; When their employer began running a promotion offering higher wages to fill vacant roles, the cashier asked for a raise which they were denied. They then found themselves training the new hires, who were making more than they were.

After asking again for the raise with the same result, the cashier grew tired of talking to a brick wall and decided to game the system to their advantage. Just when their manager needed them most, they walked out, leaving their employer to consider their mistakes.
They then went to the website and applied for the role they had just quit (which was still hiring at an increased rate). They were rehired with the wage they had been after all along.
You might be thinking: Why not just give them the raise in the first place? It certainly would have saved a lot of time and paperwork. But this employer was counting on the control that they had over the employee to allow them to save a few dollars an hour on staffing costs. Chances are if this was a larger chain, they were trying to avoid having to pay all of their staff more across the business, lest it mean that they make less of a profit this year.
