I'm going to have to whisper this: the many culinary delights brought to us by Italy are great and all, but aren't they sometimes the tiniest bit overrated? Don't get me wrong, I love pizza and pasta as much as the next average human being, but there are literally 194 other countries in the world who each have their own cuisines, and don't get half as much airtime as the land of the boot.
Part of this is down to the attitude of the Italian diaspora towards their food. You'd be hard pressed to find somebody with this heritage who doesn't sing the praises of their national dishes, and it's not hard to see why. However, the dark side to this is that some can get arrogant when it comes to defending it. Perhaps this is why there are so many individuals out there who spend their time desecrating all the Italian classics that we know and love, to the horror of italians mad at food. That's the price you pay for overexposure, I guess.
