A tweet from @NYCParks went viral last week after the account reassured concerned citizens that the sight of squirrels "splooting" around public parks shouldn't be any cause for alarm. @NYCParks explained, "On hot days, squirrels keep cool by splooting (stretching out) on cool surfaces to reduce body heat." Included with the important public service announcement was a picture of a little squirrel sprawled out under the shade of a tree. It turns out squirrels aren't the only splooters in the animal kingdom. @NYCParks inspired others to share pics of their cats and dogs splooting around the house. And you don't have to search very far to find images of bears and gofers doin' a sploot. Honestly, who wouldn't enjoy a leisurely sploot on a hot afternoon? Especially if you're covered head to toe in fur! Keep scrolling for all of our favorite pictures of adorable animals beating the heat with some quality splooting.
