Not locking the door is definitely a problem, but robbing your roommate as a "prank" in order to teach her a lesson is definitely not the solution.
This thread was posted on Reddit's r/AmITheA**hole subreddit by u/morefurriesplease, who shared her story about her current living situation. While she acknowledges that her forgetfulness when it comes to not locking the door is an issue she's trying to work on, people in the comments were not generous to her. Many of them also pointed out that her increasingly paranoid roommate clearly is having some sort of mental health issue that needs to be addressed. Much of this heated back-and-forth, though, is speculation. Generally, however, the comments seem to suggest that both parties here are at fault.
Regardless, the original poster did not deserve to know what it feels like to get robbed in order to remember to lock the door. It's remarkable what roommates will do in order to avoid having a simple but direct discussion. We'd rather send essay-length texts, leave dirty dishes in the sink passive-aggressively, charge each other on Venmo without warning, and in this case, stage a literal fake robbery.
