'Will you be at work?': Boss fires pregnant worker after they visit the ER and are assigned bedrest for fainting

This whole scenario plays out like some bad joke and completely plays into the stereotype that most employers will work you into your grave with no remorse or consideration.

Screenshots of this text exchange were posted to Reddit's r/antiwork thread this week by Reddit user u/Major-Lemon3192, who shared her experience to the popular sub.

“Throwback to when I told my boss I was in the hospital[,] then she sent me a paragraph saying she didn't understand why I can't work,” the user writes, providing some context to the posted screenshots.

“I left out earlier messages because [they] had too much personal info that when I blurred it out, made no sense," the user clarifies in the comments. "But I did tell her on Friday that I had [gone] to the ER and was already at the hospital. The next text was saying I was gonna maybe be there for a few more days.”

“Yea, so she knew I was currently in the hospital, we just didn’t know how long. And after she came at me sideways, I felt like I didn’t want to clarify for her anymore other than I wouldn’t be at work lmao.”

“She just doesn’t read messages I feel like […] every time I’d ever talk to her, I’d tell her something super clearly, and then she’d act like she had no idea wtf was going on. Cus when I called her, I told her over the phone, ‘I passed out, and my husband is taking me to the ER, so I won’t be at work,’ so she probably thought I was discharged or not at the hospital anymore Cus I went in at like 9 am.”

The worker goes on to explain that she is no longer employed at this business after she was “basically fired” when her doctor put her on bed rest after the hospital visit.

Readers offered their condolences and outrage in the comments.
