Hey, we can totally see how this would be necessary. When cats decide that they want something, it is beyond difficult to get them to change their mind. These little furballs are persistent. Honestly, we're surprised that this worked if this cat has its mind set on sitting specifically on your lap. But, we suppose, in this case, any lap would do.

It's either this - where the cat is scratching its ear, and immediately, we come and take over. Or, it's the other way around - we're scratching the cat's ear, and suddenly, its leg starts uncontrollably twitching midair in what is undoubtedly and hilariously the same motion that it does when it's scratching its own ear.
