I'm not going to lie, writing a book does not sound like a very fun time. Pumping out tens of thousands of words that form a coherent narrative is no mean feat, as any author will happily tell you. No amount of making up stories and researching beloved topics can make up for the beast that is writer's block.
At the same time, the completion of the writing and editing process is a major achievement. This is the point at which authors get to have a little fun, including tipping their hat to everyone and everything that helped to get them through it all. Most stick to the obvious, like a brief thanks to a significant other or family member. However, as a charming Twitter thread has pointed out, there are a vocal minority who like to get creative.
While I've never committed to producing a whole book, I used up some of the precious word count in my senior thesis in college to personally thank Wojak. The paper was about memes, so I wasn't just inadvertently telling the professor marking it that I was an incel. Anyway, the point stands that an amusing dedication does not always go unnoticed, at least if the bookworms of Twitter have anything to do with it.
