Most abandoned cats have to act quickly to assimilate to life in the wild. While some may become very adverse to humans after neglect, others bounce right back and know when there's a chance to be loved.
In mid-October, a ten-week-old kitten wandering around an abandoned lot was discovered by a concerned citizen. Although the kitten was alone, he was very friendly and came right up to the person to get some much-needed love.

With a quick call to the Richmond Animal Care & Control (RACC), the tiny calico kitten was on his way to more people that would give him the attention he was yearning for. RACC caretakers were in the mood to name recently received kittens after popular games, and the kitten was dubbed "Pick Up Sticks."
Just as the game is known for its easy-to-play nature, the cat in question is most known for his easy-to-love personality. Pick Up Sticks is a very energetic kitten. He's also very vocal. Even before you arrive in the kennel room, you can hear the little kitten meowing for more people to give him attention.
"Even before you're in the room with him, you can hear him calling you," said one RACC volunteer.
One thing Pick Up Sticks loves more than chasing around the end of a wand toy is getting up close and personal with people. Not only does he love the volunteers who bring him food, but anyone willing to give him a few moments of interest.
Anytime his kennel is opened for caretakers to change his food, give him more toys, or re-fluff his blankets, he loves to try and climb out. It isn't because he wants to escape, but so he can see who else would enjoy petting him.
The best future forever home for this cuddly kitten is any persona or family that will grant Pick Up Sticks a life full of loving attention. He could keep children entertained as he darts around looking for stimulating toys and finding the next unknown object to explore and occupy adults who want a lap cat as he loves to curl up for a nap.
