Gotta catch 'em all, right? Pokemon was one of the highlights of our childhood, and we would definitely be lying if we said we didn't wish we could go outside and catch some little monsters of our own. Have you ever wondered if there were any creatures lurking about in our world, worthy of being caught and tamed like the Pokemon trainer you are?
The answer is, YES! Today we'll take you on a deep dive into the ocean (literally) to show you all of the magnificent creatures that could 100% be actual Pokemon. Strap on your scuba gear, pack a PB&J sandwich, and let's go exploring!
Glaucus Atlanticus, AKA the "Sea Swallow" or "Blue Dragon". This little guy (and I do mean little) only grows up to 3 cm long! But wait, don't fall in love with him just yet. The Glaucus Atlanticus eats poisonous creatures like the Portuguese Man-O-War and stores the poison from its prey inside its body as a defense for future predators!
Porpita porpita, AKA the "Blue Button Jellyfish"
Clade Gymnosomata, AKA "Sea Angels"
This little baby is called the "Mantis Shrimp". Did you know that they have 16 different receptors for color in their eyes? But don't be fooled by their colorful nature, they're actually quite deadly! They strike their prey with such speed and force that the water around them actually boils. Did you hear me correctly? They punch the water so hard it boils. If that's not Pokemon material, I don't know what is.
We couldn't find exactly what type of mollusk this is, so you'll have to use your imagination. What would you name it if it were a Pokemon?
Bathypterois spp, AKA the "Spiderfish"
Coelacanth Latimaria, but you can just call me "Coelacanth"
Regalecus glesne, AKA "Oarfish"
Tomopteris, AKA a "Pelagic Worm"
Belonging to the genus Bathynomus, this Giant Isopod can grow up to a foot in length!
