Pick and choose your battles, dude! Obviously, many factors contribute to lateness, and unless the employee was late to a big meeting/event, the standard is to ignore it and not make a big deal. The employee in question also made a point to acknowledge that they are never late, so it's not like it's a pattern and it's not like it has had any major effect on the work itself. It was also only 8 minutes! So, what is the conclusion to be made here? This horrible boss is petty, out of line, and an all-around buzzkill.
