'Farm animal serotonin': Neighbor's donkey comforts woman in mourning, woman returns the favor and adopts the donkey after her owner passes

There are many examples of animals mourning the loss of a loved one. Families who have had multiple dogs in the home and then one crosses the rainbow bridge see their surviving pups needing extra love for comfort and even staring at photos of their passed friend. There can be examples of this with other creatures as well, like a donkey.

Jenny the donkey was the neighbor of Shelbi Hahn. The two become very close after Shelbi suffered the loss of her brother and then several months later, a miscarriage. Shelbi would go to her yard to mourn, and Jenny the donkey started to notice her. Somehow the donkey knew she needed comforting, so she would come to her every time she came out to the yard. She would insist on pets and cuddles and never failed to put a smile on Shelbi's face. Jenny even started to get super excited whenever she would see Shelbi.

Unfortunately, the next year it seemed to be Jenny's turn to go through heartbreak. She lost her pasture mate, who she was bonded to, and one of her human owners. It became too much for the other owner to handler her on her own, so she asked Shelbi if she would be willing to take her. She saw how much they loved each other and wanted to make sure Jenny had a loving home—and with Shelbie, she knew she would.

Now the donkey and human are an inseparable pair and get to spend every day with each other. Shelbi feels so grateful that she is able to provide the love and comfort Jenny was able to give her while she was trying to make it through her own storm. Jenny is now not only part of her favorite human's home, but also a home filled with many other happy farm animals.
