In prehistoric times they had disastrous dinosaurs to cower from, in medieval times they had dastardly dragons stealing their treasure and princesses, and nowadays we have adorable little lizards who chill out and occasionally lick their eyeballs. Definitely an upgrade in the standard of living. No longer do we fear the tyranny of the tyrannosaurus, rather, we bask in the glory of majestic bearded dragons (the lizards, not the old dragons).
Not only are lizards cute, but they are also a majorly important factor in our lives, as they play a major role in keeping unwanted insect populations down, much like the dragons of yore did with humans. There's also something very surreal about the way they just lounge around, doing nothing much besides the essential things and chilling, while also maintaining an aura of superiority, almost as if they were saying 'my ancestors used to hunt yours for sport'.
