'You ARE the Zombie Apocalypse': Manchild Choosing Beggar refuses to pay artist, then uses AI art and goes on temper tantrum online

Every so often, you come across a choosing beggar who goes on a full-on temper tantrum. That's because there is a fine line between choosing beggars and childish behavior. Tom wanted to pay an artist for a poster design for an upcoming event at his non-profit, but the head of the local poster art company, Jack, made it clear that this offer was far too low for artists and that Tom should seek business elsewhere if he's unwilling to pay more.

 

Well, let's just say that this upset Tom, to the point that he decided to use AI art for his poster design and then post about his decision on Facebook, all while bullying and disparaging Jack's name and that of his company. Screenshots of their email exchange and the Facebook messages were posted to this thread on Reddit's r/ChoosingBeggars subreddit and are included below. Thankfully, it seems that Tom's actions have only made things worse for him. For more stories like this, here's one about an entitled choosing beggar and the bed they were supposed to pick up.

    Font - Hi Tom, It's Tom, right? PosterSpy doesn't do competitions anymore for posters. As explained on FB messenger we do portfolio submissions and then an artist is selected and hired. Art contests are unethical and given the cost of living increases, redundancies and other issues affecting people's livelihoods it makes sense to avoid any project where people are asked to work for free. I could help source an artist for you but with a $200 budget you may struggle to find anyone quite frankly. T

    Rectangle - Hi Tom I understand that your budget is already stretching and I'd love to help but I simply can't advertise a design job for $250. It would go against everything I stand for when it comes to hiring artists and paying them fairly. Best of luck finding the right artist.

Jack should have explained how many days of work it would take to create the poster. Whether Jack meant it or not, he implied that it would cost $250.     Font - BlancoDelRio +2. 2 hr. ago That's the part I don't understand. My non digital artist brain doesn't know how long a poster takes. If I am told the rate for a day, it sounds reasonable. Just tell what he should expect the budget to be instead of being coy about it. Maybe by setting the expectations correctly a normal client could have been inspired to up their budget. But as an artist who busted their to build a design business to the point of breakdown, burnout and bankruptcy in no small part due to this kind of mentality, I really, really want to f up Tom's days. Jack was doing the right thing for his artists knowing that someone would have taken the job out of desperation and then lost hours and hours to revisions and "just whip this up for me mate, won't take you long."
