There's a saying:
When former lovers remain friends, either one or both are still in love, or neither ever were.
While there may be exceptions to this rule, experience has shown us time and time again that it's universally true. Don't believe us? Take a stroll through Reddit, you'll find endless stories showing the saying applies to the majority of cases.
Just today, a man came to Am I The A$$hole asking if he was in the wrong defending his ex-girlfriend to his current girlfriend who was, in his words, 'putting his ex down' over a random conversation she was having with her friends about class privilege when it comes to access to higher education. OP immediately made it about her jealousy of his ex going to a top school when the current GF attends community college.
Reddit tore OP a new one, which is one-hundred percent justified, considering OP prefaced the question with both women's upbringing - his ex is a middle-upper-class only child with white-collar parents that never wanted for anything. His current girlfriend grew up in poverty, was orphaned as a child, and had to start working at a young age to keep food on the table and a roof over her family's head.
OP is clearly still harboring feelings for his ex, and we can only hope this occurrence is a wake-up call for his current girlfriend.
