To landlords, there are a few easy solutions for every problem. Leak in the ceiling? Paint over it. Hole in the drywall? Paint. Are paint costs getting a little too high? Rent hike– it's time to charge your loyal tenants 15% more every month for nothing.
If you've ever been a renter, you know that some landlords (most actually) can be huge jerks. For some reason, landlords take the 'lord' portion of their title a little bit too far and expect their tenants to act as fiefdom under their ruling, bending to every whim and need of the lord, while they ignore the blatant health and safety issues of the property for which the homeowner is technically responsible. According to a pair of real estate/investor/biggest-POS-you've-ever-seen-online guys, on top of their regular landlording, they genuinely believe that their tenants should be tipping and including a gratuity in their rent payment every month as a 'thank you' for their services. Excuse me, but what services has a landlord ever provided their tenant apart from scantily taking care of their belongings?
Quite frankly, just the audacity of tipping 25%+ on a coffee at the local corner store sort of stings, but at least you know that your money is going directly into the pocket of a minimum wage worker, not some feudalist nepo baby who inherited their Daddy's apartment in a gentrified neighborhood. Sorry buddy, if you painted directly over the electrical outlets, you certainly don't deserve a tip.
In their recent video, u/twoguystakeonrealestate comment on tipping logic, arguing that if a green-haired hipster is willing to tip for their chicken wing delivery, they can tip their landlord for being 'on call' for when things go wrong with their rental. There's so much wrong with this video that the comment section goes off, pointing out how out of touch and ridiculous some property owners can be. We're paying your mortgage for you, don't expect anything else from us.
