Moving to a new place and starting over from scratch can be tough for anyone, but especially for kids. When foreign-born people move to a new country, there's a lot of pressure on them to quickly assimilate and get into the flow of the new place. In order to speed up the process, they might try to forget their old culture and embrace their new one… like a chameleon of some sort.
But as parents, it is our ultimate responsibility to teach our children about the importance of accepting themselves and others around them. After all, diversity is what makes the world go round. Speaking of which, we recently stumbled upon a Reddit post where a concerned father asked the people of the internet whether he was an a$$hole for switching out his daughter's ethnic Indian lunches (prepared by her Indian mother) for something a little bit more westernized.
