Some skills are considered classy if you're rich but trashy when you're poor. But why is that? When you speak a second language in an upper class household, you're highly praised at every cocktail party every time you share a pretty embarrassing, accented sentence of broken French. But if you're from a lower income family and you're completely fluent in a second language (maybe English isn't even your first language) then it's considerably less impressive.
One man recently pointed out that this phenomenon is not mutually exclusive to human characteristics, but also home stylings as well. Things that are considered avant garde or artistically inclined in an expensive home's "design" might be considered a bit cheesy in a poor person's apartment.
For example, does your child sleep on the floor? For rich people, that's considered super classy and there are countless trendy bed frames that have no legs at all. Apparently for the upper crust, nobody needs to store anything under their beds. Then again, if you're not rich and your child sleeps on the floor, someone might be calling CPS on you for neglect sometime soon. If you have mismatched old furniture in your house, that's considered "classy" if you call it vintage aesthetic. But if you're broke, it's considered trashy since you don't have enough money to buy un-used furniture.
