Human beings are some of the most creative and hilarious creatures out there. You need not look further than the names they come up with for their pets to know that. Especially cats. Most other animals get animal-appropriate names, but cats… something about them just makes their owners not care whatsoever about how ridiculous their names are. We have seen some hilarious cat names in our time writing for ICanHas. Some of our favorites include cats with old people names - charming and refined and way too ridiculous, and cats whose names evolved over time into something completely indistinguishable from their original names.

Cat names can be anything, but cat people do seem to love giving their cats food related names. And it seems, according to this viral twitter thread, that not only do dog owners do it too but that there's a pattern to the madness.

Personally, our favorite type of name to give to cats is human names. Just think about it: you're sitting in a Zoom meeting, in the middle of giving a presentation, and out of pure frustration, because your cat will not stop doing it just out of frame, you have to say: "Meredith, can you stop biting my ankles?!"

It's not about them knowing what their names mean. They don't care what name you give them. All that this is about is giving your pet the most ridiculous name humanly possible so that you - their human - are forever entertained whenever you have to say it.
