Font - I hope you enjoy tripping over my computer! S OC I posted this as part of a comment in the nursing sub, but I think it might fit here too. Nurses for the most part, use a rolling computer that we call a "wow" (workstation on wheels.) Normal shifts are 0700-1900, or 1900-0700. I worked at 1300-0100.

Font - Every day when I would come in, there would be a wow pushed off to the side that didn't work for some reason that was "saved for me" but no one had called IT for. Our IT was great, they'd come down within half an hour unless they had a hospital wide calamity. But they don't magically know that wow is down unless you call them.

Font - So everyday, I would come in, drag said wow into the nurses station and call IT. It would usually take me 20-30 mins to start working because I couldn't see any charts. My: boss threatened to write me up for taking too long. I pointed out that I was on the phone with IT, she did nothing but still complained it took me too long to start working. You got it, Karen.

Font - I'd come in, push the offending wow into her office (that was so small the door would hit the chairs in front of her desk) and leave it. I'd be on the floor at 1300. I wouldn't take a patient assignment, I'd just help everyone else with their tasks. (Starting IVS, wound care, splints, etc.)

Font - Within a week, we had 3 new wows (that we were told we didn't have the budget for) and a note about how the entire shift would be written up if she found a broken one without an IT ticket. She was let go for many reasons after a year on the job. We did not miss her.

Font - lexa_pro_ho OP 19 hr. ago Worst manager I've ever had, including the one when I worked retail that would short our worked hours to make budget.

Font - lexa_pro_ho OP 19 hr. ago That is some lovely karma, but I wish it had come a little sooner for you. Those years must have been soul crushing.

Font - XaXNL 19 hr. ago In the Netherlands we call it a COW (computer on wheels) Vote lexa_pro_ho OP 19 hr. ago Reply Share We used to call them that, until patients/visitors started claiming that nurses were calling them cows, lol.

Font - W Swiggy1957 18 hr. ago At least your IT team took the time to fix problem equipment. Less technical job, working at a meat packing plant in night sanitation. (Read janitor) we had a brand new facility, and part of the upgrade was a floor scrubbing machine for non-processing area: hallways, cafeteria, etc. The shipping crew had been using it for months to scrub the dock area so it wasn't brand new when I first used it. Sure enough, it had problems the first time I used it. The direction h

Font - First occurence, I parked it in the maintenance shop with a note about it. Next day I come in, it's parked where it was supposed to be, so I assume it's fixed. Nope. Back to the shop, with a note. This went on for a few weeks, until I was cleaning the floor in a hallway and had to back it in to do the job. The control wouldn't go into stop mode, stuck in the reverse position. It was able to dodge out of the way, but it kept going until it hit the wall and put a nice inch and a half hole i

Font - tell him what happened, and he was fuming! Next day, I get called into the office to get reamed out, maybe even fired. After all, the facility had only been in operation a month aside from the warehouse. As we talked, I pointed out that I had reported the problem previously, yes, to my boss, and followed his instructions, putting a note with the problem on the machine. More digging was done, they found out the warehouse workers came in, tore the note off and threw it away, then used it on

Font - Maintenance didn't know there was a problem. Now the hit the fan. Shipping was reamed out, I kept my job, and the machine was FINALLY fixed. The problem? A screw was loose. Fixed in 30 seconds.

Font - MistressPhoenix. 18 hr. ago i feel this on so many levels. i'm the one that gets to call IT for our cows (what we all them where i work, though HR hates it when we do that), the desk top terminals, broken heart monitors, etc. It seems like when i'm off work, no one else can be bothered, and since i set up my shifts as 3 on, 6 off, 6 on, 6 off, 3 on, etc. that means that sometimes these items are down for 6 days. All because no one else can dial the 4 digit extension to reach IT. Irritates

Font - lexa_pro_ho OPO - 16 hr. ago It's literally always one person that does this. You're the one that calls IT, you're the one that actually tags that needs to go to biomed, you're the one that calls materials. It's so hard to dial a 4 digit extension and have a 45 second conversation, isn't it. (Sarcasm.)
