While traveling in London, I was surprised to find they don't put ice in their water and keep their cream warm. I was the quintessential "annoying" American asking the barista if I could have the cold cream from the fridge. Needless to say, I got the "stupid, typical American" scowl while the Englishman grabbed the cold cream from the fridge and disdainfully dropped it on the counter for me. Sorry - I didn't know that it was out of the ordinary to have my milk or cream cold!
My need for cold dairy products was quite minimal, but these American travelers and transplants are sharing their experiences while in other countries and some of them will have all of our heads spinning. I wasn't kidding about the poop shelf in a toilet - in the Netherlands, rather than having the toilet drain in the center of the bowl, it's at the front so you can inspect your performance before it goes down the drain. What the what?!
From varied eating preferences to intermission during a movie and biscuits filled with laxatives, take a journey around the varied (and weird) world with us.
