On some levels, I understand the appeal of a Mom Facebook group. It's a good way to find community when you're moving to a new city and want to connect with local parents. When you're a first-time mom, it can feel better to get advice from those who understand what you're going through instead of doctors or parenting books. It feels much more human to consult with people online who are more than willing to share their honest opinions. However, these groups aren't always dominated by people with the best parenting takes. Think about it: why would doctors and parenting experts spend all their free time in local parenting Facebook groups telling other people how to take care of their children? These groups are for people who have nothing better to do, and it shows.
