The recent earthquakes in Turkey have shaken up the global new stands for the last several weeks with horrific tales of loss and destruction. Amidst the debris and the wreckage of this terrible news are glimmers of heartwarming and wholesome stories of everyday folks being absolute heroes. One man, a Turkish firefighter and volunteer emergency responder to the earthquakes, stars in what could be the most wholesome tale you'll see this week

Ali Cakas, a 33 year old fireman and professional mountain biker, never expected to accidentally bring home a new best friend when he was searching for survivors in the rubble. Ali spent days digging through heaps of debris, using search dogs and any other tools they could find to help find surviving earthquake victims trapped within the cement tombs of fallen buildings and collapsed homes. But one day…

One morning, while Ali was searching through the city, he found a dusty grey kitty, meowing for help from beneath the rubble. Being a good samaritan, Ali rescued the kitten and pulled him to safety. He probably thought that he would release this dirty, sad kitten and it would be off on its way, but he was wrong. The cat was immediately fond of the man and came to his every call, never leaving his side and even perching on his shoulder.

Fortunately for this persistent kitty, Ali was a huge softie and thought he would simply bring the cat home for a meal and a bath then he would send him on his way. Lo and behold, like our parents always warned us, once the cat was out of the bag and in the house, he was planning to stick around a while and become a permanent fixture.

Ali decided to keep the cute kitty (whom he learned was actually a white and black tuxedo cat, not a grey cat), and he named her Enkaz, which means ‘rubble’ or ‘wreck’ in Turkish. What's most adorable is that Enkaz has quickly melted our hearts and turned us into a real wreck, following her adoption. She seems outrageously happy and mischievous like all cats should be.

It seems as though Enkaz really is a lucky cat. It's a wonder what she plans to do with the rest of her remaining 8 lives, but for the moment, it looks like she plans to go wherever Ali, her hero, goes.

(I'm not crying, YOU'RE crying)
