Sudden loss for a thing that was great about your life can cause grief—even when that thing was your job. Sometimes it will be a sudden change of ownership or leadership; sometimes, it is the same leaders making sweeping changes in policy to increase profits. Sometimes it's a smaller change within your team, maybe a coworker or boss you like leaving for a new role. This last scenario normally ends up with you working closely with someone who you like significantly less than the coworker they're replacing, usually because it's a new boss who feels they have something to prove and needs a scapegoat to abuse to flex their managerial might.
Ethics aside, the shortsighted act of leaving enemies everywhere you go is that, eventually, one of those subordinates is going to surpass you in rank and may have a direct say in your career going forwards. We see stories in the likes of r/pettyrevenge and r/MaliciousCompliance like this all the time—so it's a real risk if those stories are to be believed.
