At some point in your life, your boss might ask you to do something that isn't entirely ethical (and possibly not entirely legal either), and it will be up to you to decide whether you will obey that demand. But, when your boss inadvertently gives you the authority to go against the business's policy and do the right thing, you might be more than happy to comply—especially if you don't like your job all that much in the first place.
That's the chance that this worker had at the medical insurance firm where they worked; their job was to talk to patient's doctors, who would make a case for why their patient needed a particular treatment; they were then to deny as many claims as the company could possibly get away with. They share that the job was "miserable," but at least it was easy. They eventually got pulled up by their boss for spending too much time reviewing each case, leading to an order from their boss with which they could maliciously comply and do right by the patients.
