'Maim. Consume. Destroy': How Different Farm Fowl Eat Watermelon

It's fun to give our pets a treat every now and then. Maybe your pup gets a nice liver stick or your cat gets a little slice of salmon– the pure joy and anticipation in their eyes is adorable and irresistible. Cats and dogs get excited and wag their tails and scorf down their treats with blissful consideration, savoring every morsel. However, if your only pets are farm birds, you might have a different response on your hands because birds are just today's dinosaurs. Have you ever wondered how a dinosaur might eat a watermelon?

They got down to business at Mellifex Poultry Farm in Texas, offering delicious melony treats to their birby inhabitants. For some of the critters, it reminded us exactly why some birds are called fowl. For others, they showed delicate restraint and cuteness to boot.

Mellifex's mini chickens, or 'Bantam Chickens' as they're called by breeders, are gentle and hesitant of the watermelon. At first they gawk at it, not sure if the melon slice is friend or foe. Then they peck at it with scrutiny, and take teensy bites of the pink, juicy treat. Are they happy? We can't quite tell from their blank birdy stare, but it seems like these birbs are enjoying their treat nonetheless.

Then we have the ducks. OHHHH the ducks. These feisty fowl dive onto the melon with no remorse and chomp it down like there's no tomorrow. They act as if their starved and haven't seen a meal in days, but by the plumpy appearance of these birdos, we know they're just fatties who love to mack.

The most terrifying of the birds on the farm is the turkey. It ogles the melon slice with hatred in its eyes, literal hatred, before plowing into it. The suspense leading up to the turkey's strike is enough to make anyone fearful. He could easily take a finger off with that razor sharp beak of his, so we're going to steer clear of the turkey for now.

Lastly is the sweet and handsome Beetlebug, the crown jewel of Mellifex Farms. He is a tiny rooster that takes even tinier, gentler bites than his hen comrades. Not only does Beetlebug have the daintiest, smallest slice of watermelon offered to him (the big ones were probably too spooky), but he takes baby pecks at it, as if he doesn't want to harm the melon in any way. Now this dinosaur is one we could love, cherish, and cuddle, showering him with treats until he cockadoodledoos in the morning.

Main. Consume. Destroy.
