AITA: 'She's an awful driver and kinda dumb, but at least she's hot!': Inconsiderate fiancé roasts his future wife on their wedding invitation website, sends it to the whole family as a 'surprise'
Couples that roast each other are usually friends while also being lovers. Typically those relationships are forged in good fun, secret rivalry, and being able to take a joke. But where do they draw the line between playful teasing and absolute humiliation? Can a roast go too far? One man recently found out exactly how far "too far" was when he decided to surprise his fiancé with a seemingly thoughtful gift.
u/weddingsiteweb is a 29 year old man who thought it would be cute to build their wedding website and online invitations without his woman, surprising her with the final product and most likely hoping to earn some sort of pat on the back. Well, OP had the right idea in mind, but completely blew it by being an insensitive jerk with the things he wrote on the page.
Before sending the site to their entire family and friend circle, OP slapped together a "how we met" page where he thought it would be funny to throw in some of his couple's roasting energy and deprecating jokes. Except instead of poking fun at each of them, all of the jokes he wrote on the page were centered around his fiancé's greatest shortcomings– including topics that are a seriously touchy!
He joked about how he was loyal boyfriend to her even though she was a terrible driver. He commented on how she was taking too long to graduate college and had failed a bunch of classes. Oh and the "burns" he included about himself were much more tame, like how he was a really bad cook before he met her and how he was nervous to ask her out at first because she was so beautiful.
So she's an awful driver and a little dumb, but she can cook and at least she's hot?!
Well, as surprises typically go, it blew up in his face when he sent the entire link and website to their family and friends before she even saw it. Needless to say, she was super insulted and feeling really hurt about the roast and Redditors are thinking it might even be grounds to reconsider their marriage.
