'I scanned about $475 worth of stuff': Dad takes kids to grocery store and lets them snack on whatever they want, then leaves without paying

This dad acts like he's never been to a grocery store in his entire life. He threw a fit just because the self-checkout was too much for him to handle.

Self-checkout has become a way of life in many parts of the world, replacing cashiers with scanning machines you can operate yourself. This works well for many shoppers, because it means you don't have to wait as long in lines, and plenty of people like the privacy of not having to talk to anyone while they shop. But not everyone feels that way — this guy, for example, feels plenty entitled to having a cashier check him out. 

I've seen freak outs over self-checkout lines before, so I'm inclined to believe this guy's terrible tale. Some people feel that when they're forced to scan their own items, they're "doing work" for the store. Then, they start yelling and requesting assistance, and the cashiers can't calm them down, because they're so worked up over this small slight. Some people just can't handle change, apparently.

    Font - There are employees hanging out by the customer service desk and they saw me, but they didn't come to the cash registers. There was one girl working at the self check out. She waved me over to do my own scanning. I asked why none of the tills were open and she just shrugged.

OP should've complained to a manager instead of being passive aggressive about it to the people who have literally no authority to open a register. YTA

Of course they don't know why any lanes are open or not, they don't make those choices! So you wasted you and your kids time, over some minimum wage people just doing their jobs. YTA. (For all those confused- I believe that OP kept scanning items, bagging them, and then left without paying or taking any of them).
