Font - Fired because I didn't want to come back to office It was peak covid in 2020 and this company I've been doing contract work offered me a full time job. I was already employed and was working with them on the side for extra cash. Well I guess they liked my work that they sent an offer with 50% pay increase and full time WFH. I asked if the WFH was temporary for Covid and they said no. It was permanent for the rest of my employment. Manager even said if policy ever changes that he will make

Font - I was happy where I was at, but the pay bump and WFH was too good to pass up so I took the offer Well a few months later I was ask if I could come in a couple times a month for team meetings. I'm like sure why not. Then as time pass by I was asked to come in even more and more time. Not just meetings but to just sit in the office and work. Because boss prefers that way.

Font - Well three years later I'm in the office 3x a week for 8 hours. I was pissed so I sent my boss a screenshot of my initial job offer and reminded him his promises. He got pissed and told me to stay home then and stop coming in. Then told me how management and policy changes and he can't do much. I told him how I'm willing to compromise and come in weekly as long as it isn't half the time or hybrid schedule. We agreed that I will come in 2x a week for half a day. 8 hours max a week.

Font - Well three days later I get a call to come in to review a few things. I say sure and pack my laptop and start driving. Half way thru my drive I get notifications on my phone that my work accounts have been logged off. I try to log back in and got hit with "accounts don't exist" type of message. So i obviously know why I'm going to the office.

Font - I arrive and was told I'm being let go for beach of contract. Boss says he won't say much but that I was doing contract work for other companies which is against company policy. This is 100% true. I'm not debating that. I broke company rules. Fair. But the part is that my boss knew about it from day one. We even talked about it openly many times over the course of 3 years.

Font - He just wanted a good reason to let me go. I'm in Texas so they can fire me for no reason so idk why he chose to find an excuse. I'm debating going to HR and showing the screen shot where he allowed me to work contract work but need to cover all my bases first.

Font - MexicanGuey OP. 14 hr. ago Well just a few months in I was a already going in regularly. Even if it was a few hours. Then over 3 years they progressively added more and more in office hours to my schedule. It was after they added the 3rd full day that I snapped and demanded WFH as I was originally promised. Font - kiwimuz 13 hr. ago Go to HR with copy of screen shots and ask why you have been dismissed when you are working within agreed terms of employment. Also let them know it's their one and only chance to fix it before you go down the legal wrongful dismissal route. 103 Reply Share

Font - Fair-Literature8300. 12 hr. ago The simplest answer is a higher up made a decision and put your boss in a tight spot. Your boss was in no position to do anything but go along with the new plan. The big boss did not care what commitments your immediate boss made. Unless your boss owns the company, their promises never mean much.

Font - based_miss_lippy - 9 hr. ago DO NOT TRUST ANYONE AT WORK ESPECIALLY MANAGEMENT. My god if I had a dollar for every time someone got up by not abiding by this simple rule I wouldn't have to work ever again.

Font - 5 matty_nice 14 hr. ago I'm debating going to HR and showing the screen shot where he allowed me to work contract work but need to cover all my bases first. What's the purpose of this? Are you assuming that HR is unaware of the previous arrangement? And what do you expect them to do about it? As your manager mentioned, policies (and their enforcement of) changes. I'm sorry.

Font - MexicanGuey OP. 14 hr. ago Get his fired. He fired me because he also knew I was breaking company policy for 3 years so why am I the only one getting fired?

Font - Owner56897320. 11 hr. ago They have written proof that their Boss okayed it. So why is OP the only one getting fired? Boss knew OP was doing contract work for nearly 3 years yet they get no punishment?

Font - MexicanGuey OP. 9 hr. ago Did you not read my post? I'm not arguing the reason I was fired. I accepted and not fighting it. I'm not going to HR to beg for my job. F that. I'm going to HR to let them know that their middle manager allowed me to break rules and get his fired too.

Font - UpYours3265 12 hr. ago HR is not your friend. They are there to protect the company not the employees.

Font - MexicanGuey OP. 9 hr. ago True but my manager is middle management and he can 100% get fired for also breaking compay policy.
