Weekly Internet Roundup: Lofi Girl Makes a Friend, Bud Light Backlash, and Millie Bobby Brown Gets Engaged

Greetings! After a brief hiatus, we're back with another edition of things that captivated the internet this week. That's right, we weren't going to let you off the hook by massaging your brain with cute animal memes 24/7. It's time to do some mild thinking, on multiple topics of varying levels of stupidity. Without further ado, here they are.

Woke Bud Light? On This Internet?

Being a trans person with a popular internet presence, Dylan Mulvaney is no stranger to getting online weirdos frothing at the mouth. However, things have rarely gone as wildly into overdrive as they have most recently, after the influencer shared that Bud Light was taking her on as a spokesperson, and had gifted her a can that was personalized with a picture of her on it.

Naturally, this was something that needed to be subject to several weeks of outrage and discourse, most recently in the form of conservative CEO Seth Weathers setting up a business for ‘woke-free’ beer that mimics the iconic brand in every way except supporting trans rights. All entirely normal and not at all attention-seeking behavior.

Celebrities: They're Just Like Everyone Who Never Left Your Hometown

Millie Bobby Brown announced her engagement to Jon Bon Jovi spawn Jake Bongiovi this week, sparking conversation aplenty about the fact that she has done this at the grand old age of nineteen years old. I think many of us can safely say that if we stayed with the person we were in love with at nineteen, things would be… very bad! Nonetheless, we can only hope it works out for them even with all the roasts about Drake's potential reaction to the news.

The Lofi Girl Gains a Friend

There are plenty of contemporary female icons in music today, and one of them is YouTube's very own Lofi Girl. Her constant flow of music has been much appreciated and memed by the millions who have enjoyed her hip-hop beats to study and relax to. There was outrage a few months back when YouTube temporarily took down her years-long stream.

She made another mysterious disappearance earlier this week, and this time round it appeared to be her own choice. The stream showed that she had left her desk. As it turns out, it was in preparation for the arrival of her counterpart, Synthwave Boy. Promising a separate bunch of tunes to ‘chill/game’ to, the lofi lore is now stronger than ever. You can even see the blue light of his window in the backdrop with the Lofi Girl. I sense numerous Wattpad fics incoming.

Instagram, Your Crimes Against Poetry Will Never Be Forgiven

I saw the greatest minds of my generation (i.e. rather boring but kind of bohemian girls I was jealous of) lap up the aesthetic frivolity of Rupi Kaur in her Milk and Honey prime while I was in college. Personally, putting a few sparse, cringey sentences about ‘healing’ from crappy situationships next to a line drawing of a flower never did it for me, but her millions of fans clearly thought differently.

The poet and Instagram star has only got more cringey over the past decade, as a video of her doing a reading from her most famous tome did the rounds. Despite her melodramatic performance, there was apparently no element of parody involved. Honestly, got to have some level of respect for the willingness to be this unapologetically embarrassing.

That's it for another week. No doubt this crazy journey that we call rampant screen addiction will bring many other delights to chow down on by the time next Friday rolls around. Can't wait!
