Well, it's happening. The ludicrously expensive Star Wars hotel on Disneyland property is closing in September after less than two years of operation. If you think everything at Disney is expensive (which, to be fair, it is), this hotel/experience costs $5000 for a two-night stay. You heard that right! I could pay five months of rent with what it costs to go to this expensive mistake of a hotel.
One of my favorite theme park YouTubers Jenny Nicholson, who visited the hotel in its first month of operation, had this to say on the closure.
It's always sad to see unique themed entertainment disappear, but also, you know, good. If Disney's experiment in withholding, paywalling, and massively overcharging for experiences had been a success it would only mean bad things for the future of the parks.
This quote sums up my opinion of this whole saga. I don't want cool immersive hotels to close, but Disney can't keep getting away with increasing their prices excessively like this. It's unfair to not-rich Disney fans who want a good park experience.
