Font - So I got locked out while my roommate is on vacation, landlord won't help because she hasn't paid the rent. So I (37f) up today and didn't warn my boyfriend (51m) not to lock the door handle when we were leaving. So he did so i now have no way into my apartment.

Font - My roommate. (26f) is on a three month vacation. Before she left, we agreed we would do the rent the same way. I would just send it to her, and she would send it in to the landlord. Because that's how we've been doing it since we moved in two years ago. So I have no way to get into my house. And because she's the only one that deals with the landlord she's the only one with his contact information. Which yes I get now is stupid. I should've had it as well.

Font - But I get his email address, and sent off a politely written email asking if someone could come down and help me. And then I got an email back saying that the rent has not been paid. Well, I paid the rent. How much rent are we talking? Apparently she told the landlord that I hadn't sent my portion of the rent. And that's why she didn't have it. Apparently we pay late all the time every month. So I send along a picture of my banking statement from the first showing that I sent my rent to h

Font - I haven't heard back from him yet. I'll update if I do. But I'm pretty sure that he's not gonna come help me because the rent is not paid. I knew this was gonna happen and I trusted her anyway.

Font - Edit: guys I do have my keys and I did have them on me. We were never given a key for that bottom lock. The landlord is coming this morning to fix it and I'm going to email him and ask him if he can just remove the doorhandle all together. And she's not just on a vacation, she's got a Way to work with her friend so it's a vacation that she's getting paid for.

Font - Honeysoakedkitten 14 hr. ago You need to arrange to pay your portion directly to your landlord in future. Hope they figure it out and can help you. 326 Share

Font - Rough Homework6913 OP 14 hr. ago See the issue is he doesn't want the rent like that. He doesn't want the rent coming in two separate transactions. I think we're gonna have an argument because I'm gonna be the one sending them in from now on. 179 Share

Font - Rough Homework6913 OP - 6 hr. ago Well, she went on this vacation to visit her friends to go work as well. When I was talking to her, apparently she doesn't owe that much.

Font - sylvanwhisper. 14 hr. ago S This is an illegal eviction to keep you locked out of your home. Until a court says you have to be out, you still have tenant's rights. Call the police and tell them your landlord won't let you into your house. They should get you in.

Font - bamfzula 13 hr. ago None of this makes any sense. Why would you not have a key when you live there? Why would you not have your own landlord's info? Why are you seemingly not beyond furious that your roommate is lying saying you didn't pay half the rent and is constantly late paying it? Who goes on a 3 month long vacation? So confused

Font - bigdyke69 14 hr. ago Why don't you have a key? 61 Share DestroyerOfMils. 12 hr. ago Sounds like she does, but it's in the apartment and her bf accidentally locked them out.

Font - evilgirlattack - 12 hr. ago Email your landlord back and tell him that you will be filing an illegal lockout court case against him as soon as the courts open (don't threaten to, just say that you will be doing it). Regardless of whether the rent was paid or not, what your landlord is doing is illegal. Even if you get back in before then, you should still file against him - you have proof.

Font - Once you're back inside, start getting your ducks in a row to move out (if you're month to month). Start sending your portion of rent as a money order from the post office (USPS money orders are easier to cancel in case your LL suddenly doesn't get your portion of the rent, like mine mysteriously did). Your landlord can bitch all he wants about two seperate rent checks but if you each signed a seperate rental agreement there's nothing he can do but

Font - Unfortunately, if your roommate has been sending rent late every month and not paying late fees, that's going to come out of your security deposit. In that case, make sure you have receipts showing when you paid and go after your roommate in small claims court. Good luck, and screw your landlord for doing this.

Font - Rough Homework6913 OP. 6 hr. ago Thank you because everybody else is attacking me because of the details I left out. Like obviously, I have a key. Just for when we're in the house so we don't have a key for that. I did get mad at my roommate. And all the people assuming she's in jail are crazy.
