'Where can I get one' vs. 'Anyone else feel the toxicity?': Boyfriend shares what it's like to be the golden retriever in his relationship, but red flag doubters lurk in the comments sparking fevered debate

Everyone has their own personal brand of man when it comes to choosing a boyfriend. Some folks like manly men, others would say that holding the door open for them reflects toxic masculinity. Although there are different strokes for different folks, most people would never think that a golden retriever boyfriend– aka the type of guy that's easy going, well-intentioned, and has dumb energy– would be the kind of guy that spews random red flaggery in a nice tone.

One TikToker recently felt the heat of backlash after making a video trying to portray the most likeable, golden retriever-style boyfriending that he could muster, except according to commenters, he's showing the darkest dark side of nice-guy toxicity

As a TikToker known for making notorious unlikable characters in his skits, Rob was excited to portray a wholesome figure for once. Although, apparently it came off with more spice and more toxicity than he originally imagined. He keeps a chipper tone throughout the video, which makes the things he says a little more condescending than intended and folks in the comments are up in arms.

With his well-intentioned words, Rob sort of sounds like he wants to control his girlfriend, micromanaging her every move and trying to keep tabs on her entire day. Apparently there's a fine line between being attentive and being overbearing.

Rob's version of a golden retriever boyfriend does show some redeeming qualities. He builds up his woman and is down on her oppressors. That kind of smack talk and involvement in office gossip is admirable for sure. We all want a man that has our back, especially when it comes to our careers.

Everyone also likes that Rob shows the servitude of boyfriending. He's already made dinner for his woman and he's telling her to kick off her shoes and relax? We love that.

At the end of the video he pulls out the good boyfriend kryptonite by saying he's ready to watch Vanderpump rules. Now that's some golden behavior that we all love too.

It appears that Rob doesn't know what a golden retriever boyfriend is and just made a skit about being a regular, mixed-bag kind of guy. Half the commenters hate him and the other half adore him. I guess that means he's just a regular ol' bag of bones tossed into the relationship factory for processing. What do you think?
