‘I’m stuck in some office drama’: Man seeks advice on overcoming tough client

    Font - Hi, Thanks for taking time to read my post. So I'm stuck in some office drama. I work as an analyst for a mid-sized bank and the gist of my work is very complex.

    Font - I'm working on this deal, but there has been some drama. Essentially the SOP tell me to do collected required information- however, the client doesn't want to provide what is required and I have pushed back. After me pushing back, the client reach out to my boss and basically has said I'm asking for stuff that I don't need however I do need the required documents to proceed to follow SOP and policy.

    Font - My boss understands this and is supportive, but the director is not having it. He has requested to meet with me one-on- one and I'm not sure how this will pan out. The client typed a very lengthy email basically bashing me when I'm only doing my job.

    Font - I have an inkling I know have a target on my back because I'm following Policy & SOP. It's worth noting the client is an acquaintance to a higher up in the Bank. How should I handle this tomorrow? Any advice is greatly appreciated. I plan on standing my ground and keep asking for the required documentation.

    Font - AdditionalAttorney 7 mo. ago I think you ask your boss on how to handle it. I would tell the director that you're just doing what your boss told you to do - ie follow the procedure. If the director doesnt want you to follow the procedure they should talk to your boss

    Font - I wouldn't stand my ground per se. If the director aka your bosss boss says differently you document their direction and do what they asked All this assuming you're not being asked to do something illegal or unethical. But it's very common to be asked by higher up leadership to make 2+2=5

    Font - [deleted] 7 mo. ago Warning: I'm not in banking, so take what I say with a grain of salt. It's banking, you follow the policy. There are legal ramifications of not following SOP/policy. If the deal goes south and they find out you didn't follow SOP or policy, who will this fall back on? Them, or you?

    Font - Yeah, I thought so. So if I was in your shoes-and I am in other ways, and I'm a huge pain in the ass for other people-I'd make sure my boss was good with the path I'd taken, and then talk with the Director and hold my ground. If the Director is good with you violating SOP, then maybe figure out how to get your bosses blessing in writing with the Director for safety's sake.

    Font - [deleted] 7 mo. ago Absolutely. But there are conflicts of interest, and there are conflicts of interest if you know what I mean. Some are just conflicts in appearance (and should be avoided) and some are true conflicts of interest (and should be absolutely be avoided). One is a true legal conflict and the other would appear to people to be an ethical conflict. I don't know how that works in banking.

    Font - While not entirely the same, I dealt with this shit the last two years. I had to keep calling out unethical practices by our partner agency, then my team lead, then it got worse and worse, but if I said nothing, I'd be fired at any other organization, so I had to keep speaking up. Then I was fired for BS reasons because there was tension due to all this stat

    Font - [deleted] 7 mo. ago . My advice for someone who has to put up with one or more situations like this is to get out while you can. Get past the issue and then as quickly as possible, find a new place. A place that values ethical practices and won't put their self interests before that of their employees.

    Font - Ok_Wealth3098 · 6 mo. ago Yep I tried and couldn't fast enough. In my situation they just reframed the issues as me having a different take on something rather than a legit concern. Everywhere else in our industry I would have been praised and the issues would have been dealt with -

    Font - MCRAW367 mo. ago It might be as simple as asking your boss + director if they want you to go outside the SOP on this one. If you have an email directing you to do so, proceed. They should provide that cover if its what they want.
