The first game that sparked passion in every young board game enthusiasts was Settlers of Catan. For those of you who have never had the privilege of playing the hexagonal strategy masterpiece, aka Catan, has clearly never known friendship-ending betrayals that rival the hatred created by Monopoly. This resource guarding, ultra competitive board game may seem simple at first but the treason runs deep within the game and even newcomers can be serious wrenches in the most experienced player's strategy. But that moment when you've explained the rules at least 15x to a room for of newbs, it's easy to unravel a bit when your friend (who claims they've never played before) puts the Robber on the ore supply and now we're all screwed. So the next time we're having a board game night, nobody gets to hold back. It's time to settle up, roll the dice, and trade like there's no tomorrow.
