I got in pretty late as a fan of "The Simpsons." Like a lot of people, I grew up watching reruns, somewhat enjoying them, but mainly just watching them because they led into the "Family Guy" reruns on Fox. That was my young brain. I was way too young for the golden age of the Simpsons and not quite at the point of the not-so-great modern Simpsons. It was just a somewhat entertaining show for my elementary school brain. It wasn't until my late teens that I discovered peak, golden age Simpsons.
A friend of mine told me to check out a few early-season episodes. I was a little put off, wondering how a show so old could hold up to modern-day comedy. I was quickly proven wrong. I was watching "Marge and the Monorail" when I finally realized that it was quite possibly, one of the most clever written shows of all time. Not always laugh-out-loud funny, although oftentimes it was, but it was an example of masterful comedy writing.
The past few years have seen a massive boost in screenshots from the show being used in a meme format. And I'm all for it! Introducing "The Simpsons" to a younger generation by dominating their social media feeds? Incredible. Here's a collection of some pretty great Simpsons memes. Enjoy!
