Rebellious Golden Retriever Embraces Water Dog Energy, Refusing to Leave the Pool and Giving Puppy-Eyes for Just One More Plunge

With summertime in full swing, parents everywhere are struggling to manage the feral nature of their kiddos at the swimming pool. Whether it's the promise of a Dorito-filled sandwich or a soaking wet towel nap, kids can't seem to get enough of the pool and quite frankly, lose their marbles at the prospects of going for a swim.

Pawrents of a retriever can relate. Water doggos and retrieving breeds are known to be servants of the water, loving the dripping, shaking, doggy-paddle lifestyle more than anything else on this planet. Some dogs even refuse to acknowledge their masters existence when faced with the prospects of a doggie dip. One woman on TikTok recently saw just how far her dog was willing to push the envelope in the pool when she tried to fish him out in the midst of a storm.

Kimberly was no stranger to letting her dog swim at his leisure. With an above-ground pool in the backyard and a pooch that was smart enough to figure out the stairs to climb the 6ft walls of the pool, Kim was left with a permanently soaked dog. In the summertime when the pool is filled, he almost never leaves the water. Happy as a clam, this golden retriever is content to stay drifting around the pool water instead of doing pretty much any other activity.

Over the weekend, there were serious thunderstorms booming through Kim's neighborhood and she was forced to do what every pawrent dreads: fish her fur-child out of the depths of the pool she had no intention of entering. It was easier said than done of course. Dastardly and well-aware that he was out of reach, Kimberly's golden retriever looked her straight in the face and refused her command to come out of the water.

This rebellious dog was ready to take any risk possible in order to keep swimming, just like the feral summer children of their human counterparts. Duke, the golden retriever, proved that his regal nature was unshakable, giving a combo expression that somehow toed the line between puppy-dog-eyes and a “come and get me” attitude. The standoff made for an adorable video that persuaded Kimberly's following that maybe Duke deserved at least one or two more plunges before being wrangled back into the house that day.

He is obviously living his best life
