Weekly Internet Roundup: Jonah Hill's Therapy Speak, the Real Cheeseburger, and TikTok Live Freakshows

Happy Friday! It's been a busy week on social media, so of course we have no choice but to break down some of the wildest discussions that have been headlining it recently. Get comfortable, we'll be going all over the place.

Women in Unstable Places Stay Winning

Jonah Hill has been the latest in an ever-lengthening line of celebrity men to get called out for sexist douchebaggery, after his ex girlfriend Sarah Brady accused him of emotional abuse. She exposed some of the texts he had sent her during their relationship, which promptly started a debate about whether the actor was being controlling or not.

Of course, an overwrought online debate about gender politics is not complete without a nice dose of memes and sh*tposting to go along with it. Hill's long and detailed rant about what he expected of Brady in their relationship spawned numerous jokes, especially his aversion to “friendships with women in unstable places”. It's on him for describing so many fun activities that he wanted her to avoid, to be honest.

Gimmick Food Item of the Week

On Sunday, Burger King Thailand announced that they would be introducing a “real cheese burger” onto their menu. Foregoing meat and any other trimmings in favor of 20 slices of American cheese, the delicacy that looks like it could happily feature on the questionable grid of @boyswhocancook

Thai customers have so far offered mixed reviews of this bold menu item, and this has only encouraged the numerous memes about it. I'm waiting for it to explode on TikTok after some opportunistic TikToker proposes that it's their Girl Dinner

Attenzione, Pickpocket

For something meant to be fun, vacations sure can be stressful. As if getting lost on the streets, in translation and in airports wasn't enough, being a tourist also makes us prime targets for petty crime.

Luckily for us, there's a vigilante who is dedicating themselves to the cause of shaming the pickpockets with the potential to ruin your glamorous European holiday (if you're in Venice, at least). The anonymous TikToker has risen to fame with her loud and unapologetic callouts of thieves in one of the most famous parts of Italy. It might not stop everybody from getting robbed, but by God, it's a catchy refrain.

Ice Cream So Good! :)

There's a new disease spreading fast around the internet this week. It's called gang gang brain, and it is caught after repeated viewings of a deranged category of TikTok lives that have escaped their niche viewing bubble over the past few days. The NPC streamers have entered the mainstream viral discussion chamber, and things have been getting heated.

Long story short, there are a number of TikTok creators who make money through repeatedly making saying random words and doing certain actions, like popping single kernels of popcorn with a pair of hair straighteners. Supposedly this emulates the experience of interacting with an NPC in a video game, and yes, for some people it's a fetish thing.

It's a type of content that has to be seen to be believed, and it is equal parts horrifying and mesmerizing. It's also extremely skilled — it takes real practice to have those speedy reaction times to every single gift. These are the consequences of what putting  Subway Surfers side by side with Family Guy clips has done to our society.

That is everything we are going to take a look at for now. There are only so many of these things we can hold in our head at once before our brains start to melt a little. See you next time to try and hit that limit.
