For one thing, your emergency contact probably has other things going on and likely won't appreciate having their phone blown up by strange people they've never spoken to before for no reason at all. If it was an actual emergency or the callers were seriously worried about an individual's well-being—well, that would be a different story.
This worker shared their experience with a popular Reddit workplace community, telling of how their boss had proceeded to contact the worker's wife after they called out from work for a family emergency. When the worker left for the hospital to visit their mother, they had yet to receive any messages back from their boss in response to their text saying that they wouldn't be in. Meanwhile, instead of communicating directly with the worker, their boss had been texting their wife at work—which wasn't a good look for the worker's wife.
