Font - A family member of mine attended a retirement party for her neighbor, who just retired from working at a major fast food chain for over 30 years. I won't name the company, so I'll refer to it as "Burrito Alarm."
  • 03
Font - For background, her neighbor has down syndrome and has been working part time at the same location. And despite BA slowly cutting back his hours over the years, he remained a loyal hard worker for the company, rarely missing a shift.
  • 04
Font - So naturally after all of that time, he wanted a retirement party because his friends were having one too. He even saved up some money to take a vacation with his family, and is elated that he finally gets some well deserved time off.
  • 05
Font - At his party, one of my relatives asked his family if BA did anything special for his retirement. Guess what BA gave him?
  • 06
Font - A paper certificate and a gift card for BA. For 30+ years of loyalty!
  • 07
Font - He and his family are not fazed or upset over this, but I am still taken aback by this company's lack of generosity and gratitude towards him. He's lived next door to my family for 40+ years, and his like family to us.
  • 08
Font - I would like to do something nice for him, but obviously don't want to make this into an issue since I am the only one who's still a little upset over this.

Font - SadieDiAbla 16 hr. ago. edited 16 hr. ago That is bulit. Do something nice, whatever you want, for your homie. Even if it doesn't seem to bother him that BA didn't give two f .cks, it very well may bother him deeply. Let him know that you give many fus about him by supporting him.

Font - Treat him, congratulate and celebrate him, show him you care, tell him he is worthy, you're honored to have a friend like him, and remind him that he deserves all the kudos. All of them!

Font - Purple_Stacked 14 hr. ago . So a friend of mine used to work for cell phone company twenty years ago. He got the most sales in the area, so they gave him a first class vacation to Hawaii. This was just for selling accessories and phones at some mall. This used to be the norm. Not anymore.

Font - mikraas 12 hr. ago Honestly, I would contact corporate. I really doubt that anyone in BA knows about this amazing worker aside from the workers at his store. Tell them him story and see what they say. 30 years is a LONG TIME, especially in fast food. This guy needs some serious PR. And A LOT more than a piece of paper and a gift card. Good luck!

Font - AFSAlameda 10 hr. ago My youngest is a young man with Down Syndrome and you do get used to people and institutions treating him as "less than."

Font - The family will definitely appear to not be phased because they have decades of experience in picking their battles. I'd be thrilled if my son even gets a job. Ever.

Font - amp_atx OP 5 hr. ago I hope your son finds a good job and is treated with dignity just as my neighbor was. My guess is that he got this job over 30 years ago when the location opened and never left.

Font - RememberOola. 7 hr. ago. edited 6 hr. ago That is a minimum wage job! I got the same thing after nearly 15 years of service in the tech industry. They did slightly better: 2 days off and a paper certificate!!!!! Oh, and a boot out the door so I couldn't get my 15 year bonus: 3 days off and a paper certificate!!

Font - Puzzled_Amoeba_1333 · 11 hr. ago Well, the best thing is to throw him a real party, with NEWSPAPER or RADIOSTATION attention, and to organize this party at ANOTHER restaurant, across the street perhaps? And yes, the newscoverage should mention the lack of interest from the old company...

Font - NDeceptikon 6 hr. ago We had a server retire and she had been with the company for 30 years she worked part time. They gave her a $500 gift card and I forgot what else. I mean it was something better than a piece of paper or candy.

Font - amp_atx OP 5 hr. ago This was in line of what I was expecting. Nothing lavish, but a decent gift card to help him towards his vacation. I was shocked when they told me he only got a gift card towards a meal at the same restaurant he worked at.
