This employee tried over and over to tell their boss that they were making a mistake. Some bosses just always want to think they're right.
U/Ars-Torok had a great malicious compliance story to tell, and while it's a long story, it's totally worth the read. The OP writes that while rising through the ranks of this company, they worked with a few different bosses. One was a great boss who could solve anything… and the other was Steve. Steve was the kind of boss who thinks they are right 100% of the time.
These types of bosses drive me crazy. Why would you hire someone if you don't trust their judgement, or you think they have nothing to add to a conversation? It's like the golden rule of treating people the way you'd like to be treated. That same boss wouldn't like it if whenever they tried to bring up an issue, they were dismissed or told it wasn't their business. This person tried numerous times to tell their boss about an issue, only to be ignored and browbeaten each time. Steve made his bed, now he has to lie in it.
Read this person's excellent story below. Then, this person also had a boss that they thought was ignoring them…but looking back on it, they aren't so sure.
