Sometimes, working in a company or industry is a great way to ruin that brand or product for yourself completely… Almost always, looking behind the curtain reveals that there is no great and powerful Wizard of Oz, but rather just an old scammer defrauding their customers.
The cynical and downright illegal ways in which some major companies service their customers is astounding. You might see this attitude presenting outwardly as policies designed to drown customer complaints and warranties with intentionally complex, incompetent processes—hoping to discourage customers from pursuing them. But, still, you'd be surprised by the conversations that take place behind closed doors and what workers are told to say and do to suppress issues and reduce loss of revenue.
This worker shared their experience of being forced into their company's call center after a massive revolt left it severely understaffed. Despite failings, the company only became more desperate and more toxic, doing everything in its power to avoid servicing its long warranty guarantees.
The company decided that it was no longer going to honor the lifetime guarantee that had been sold with their products, but told customers that they weren't allowed to tell customers this and needed to string the customers along. The worker refused to, instead dealing with the problem in their own way.
