Font - I live in a place where the job market leaves a lot to be desired. I once got a job where the employer was sham contracting me
  • 04
Font - meaning that he was unlawfully hiring me as a contractor when I was actually an employee. This meant that he could save out on not paying benefits.
  • 05
Font - This was a very specialised industry where finding a suitable replacement could take weeks. If someone was hired legally as an employee, then the employee would have to provide 2 months notice.
  • 06
Font - Now, an independent contractor can set their own hours and quit whenever correct?
  • 07
Font - So I texted my boss, 'Hil Boss, as an independent contractor I will be leaving by the end of next week due to some personal reasons. Thank you'
  • 08
Font - Word came out that it took them 25 days to find a suitable replacement, and that I had costed them a few thousand $$ in lost productivity.

Font - It was clearly indimidation. So I thought about it and when I walked into my boss's office I told them that I did think long and hard on it and that they were right. I wasn't a good fit and that I was not returning tomorrow.

Font - The look on their face was priceless. Don't lean too hard on a minimum wage employee. You just might fall on your face.

Font - wolfgang784 +2 5 days ago Long live Bob, the custodian/maintenance guy who didn't take shit from management and quit after a shouting match in the middle of the store when management finally crossed the line.
  • 13
Font - Everyone loved Bob. Every employee. And they really do treat the maintenance team like st here. Bob's departure put a dent in management's reputation and overall employee morale. He comes in sometimes to shop though at least lol

Font - Me: I'm a contractor, you can give me tasks but how and when I do them is up to me. If you demand set hours, you will be on the hook for the employer share of my taxes. I don't make the rules, but we're gonna follow them.

Font - Them: I said 8! (some months later) IRS: Hey Them, I have a bill for you! Them: (shocked Pikachu)

Font - I love the extra bonus pay (the money I get to keep because I'm now an employee). Gets extra fun when you start hassling HR for your benefits.
