We don't get it. We just don't get it. The whole "Somehow, Palpatine returned" thing. And it's not that we don't get WHY they did it, because it actually makes sense. The whole sequel trilogy was supposed to be a soft reboot - Another wide-eyed orphan stuck on a desert planet, another droid with secret plans, another death star - the whole thing was a retelling of the original trilogy. We get it. What we don't understand is why they didn't make the "new" Palpatine a clone. It was all there - we have established clones exist all the way back in the prequels, We know the emperor is dead and we know he had contingency plans for his contingency plans. He should have been a clone!
Palpatine knew he might be killed so he cloned himself all the way back in 'Return of the Jedi'. But because clones age rapidly, he has been trying to make a new clone for 30 years. That's Snoke! his failed clone! Wouldn't that make more sense?
