Neighbors legally have no say on what the folks next door do with their land. So if you're in the midst of a neighborly feud and a grouchy ol' porch surfer is giving you a hard time about your garden decor, you could easily (and legally) say that that's gnome of their business. That's exactly what one suburban woman did when her nosy neighbors overstepped their boundaries– she used a garden gnome to establish claim over her space.
Nobody ever starts a feud with their neighbors for no reason. We all have at least a shred of self-preservation on the place that we live, so most people try to be civil with the folks next door. However, nagging annoyances can get the best of any red-blooded human being, which can lead to the abrupt end of civility. When u/Impressive_Letter520 first interacted with her elderly neighbors, she had no problem with them. However, once her kids were leaving their toys in the yard and the garden was getting slightly unkempt, the neighbors quickly turned sour and grouchy, surveying OP like they were the new neighborhood watch.
Under constant surveillance and tired of the underhanded jabs about her messy yard, OP decided to find her own way to nitpick her neighbor's lifestyle. Because the old man next door was so accustomed to driving over her corner of the driveway to park his car, OP thought it would be a great way to get a little payback by blocking his usual route with something she knew her neighbor would despise: a giant, garish garden gnome.
