Weekly Internet Roundup: Jollyposting, the GTA 6 Trailer, and DINKs Gone Wild

Hello, good people browsing the internet. It's once again time to take a gander at a few stories that those who are middlingly to very online have been interested in over the past week. As is often the case, we'll be dealing with a range of topics. Let's get into it.

We Wish You a Merry Mememas

How long has it been since every contrarian started complaining about how Christmas has become over commercialized? It's got to have been the number one festive season argument for a good few decades now. Well, all those people who make a point about it are either going to be delighted or horrified by the craze that has overtaken meme culture in recent weeks.

Known as Christmasposting or Jollyposting, this trend involves taking established memes and GIFs and giving them a festive twist, often with some commentary about how they now fit the Yuletide theme. Honestly, it's hard to get too mad at a semi-ironic explosion of seasonal cheer, unless you're prone to migraines.

Costco Snacks: The New Enemy of Trads

Perhaps one of the more annoying internet arguments to persist throughout this year is that of childfree people vs. family defenders. On the one side are the kind of individuals who take pleasure in calling kids ‘crotch goblins’, on the other are the foaming at the mouth Retvrn fans who think all women who don't have at least three children by the age of 25 are washed up old hags.

The latest controversy to whip up these unbearable subcultures has been a TikTok of a married couple in their early 20s joking about being DINKs, or Dual Income No Kids. These two explaining the amount of free time and disposable income they had whipped some weirdos up into a fury, but they did have a few supporters as well. Maybe one day we will all be normal about one of the most seismic life choices a couple can make together.

2025 Can't Come Soon Enough

In what is possibly the most hyped game release of this decade, the GTA 6 trailer came out following a leak — a month after Rockstar confirmed they were going to release the next installment of the much-beloved franchise. Unlike its 80s-themed predecessor, this game promises to be set in the present day and its teaser was chock-full of references to Florida memes and other kinds of viral media. Only another year to wait, gamers.

Feet, Who Needs 'Em?

TikTok has been blamed for many baffling trends since ascending to social media royalty, and the latest curiosity to capture the internet's attention definitely deserves a place in its hall of infamy. A self-described “cult” of people in Poland have taken to crawling in large groups around shops and restaurants. In a little over a week, TikTok account @crawly_possessed has progressed from one brave man crawling all by himself to a small army of crawlers terrorizing the mall. It might be weird, but at least it's not hurting anyone (for now).

That's it for this week. Please, sit back and take a moment to absorb before scrolling onwards. This is as good excuse as any to do so. Until next time!
