    True story: We visited Malaysia a few years ago and we went to a Hindu temple in the forest. There were wild monkeys everywhere! They advised us not to go near them because they like to steal things and exchange them for food. On our way out, a monkey stole a woman's passport and wallet from her purse, then climbed up a tree and didn't come down for 3 hours! Anyway, keep your personal items close to you while hiking.
