4 Posted by u/Now-Thats-Podracing 14 hours ago I got "poached" at work. An up-and- coming Director from another department told me he wanted me on a new task force he was creating within the company. He told me I was a shoe in for this job. Then, when the official interview came, he pulled the rug out from under me.

Yeah. Title. I wasn't even considering this career change. I didn't see myself doing this other job ever. But after I got targeted and told to keep quiet so he doesn't get in trouble for poaching me from my current job, I looked into it more thoroughly and got excited. It was going to be so much more money! And it had

travel requirements. so that my wife and I had tension over what the future held. It took a lot for us to talk everything out and prepare for what this new job would entail. I was told to put in through the company website as usual so that me applying would be completely above board. So much

Whelp. I had the interview only to be told that actually he jumped the gun, didn't expect the amount of great resumes he'd get, and that I'm now under-qualified for the exact position that I once apparently was perfect for. The position that he created. I'm stunned and sad but honestly not all that surprised. This whole rat race is

Can't believe my marriage went through that tension for a job that was never going to be mine. Can't believe I started day dreaming on what I was going to do with the salary increase. Back to keeping my head down in misery, I guess.

U Adahla987 edited 14 hr. ago 14 hr. ago. Did that.... my boss told me "your move to Germany has been approved". I asked him "Are you sure? Can I tell my family that we will be moving from the USA to Germany in 3 months?" And he said "Yes, tell your family".
  • 07
Also... I'm physically IN Germany at the time. So I call up my husband and my kids (18f, 16m at the time) and say "Hey! They finally approved it; we are moving to Germany!"
  • 08
When it came time for me to work on my visa and I asked him what the status was and he says "Let me check with HR" then he comes back a week later and says that he never approved the move because he doesn't "feel that my commitment to the organization is sufficient to justify the expense".

They had proposed the move to me in April. It was approved in October and then "unapproved" in November. My son started taking German class and missed out on college credit because we were told we were moving. My daughter delayed college admission.

HR told me that because I had nothing in writing (which was a lie, it was written and approved in my HR file in the HRIS system...and approved by my boss) that I wasn't showing the "leadership style" they were expecting from me.

Huh???? You guys just pulled the rug out from under me AND my family. I had actual monetary losses from this! This is why I only work 40 hours a week now. Want me to travel? Sure....I'll travel after 10 AM on Monday and I will be back at home on Friday by 5.

woodmanalejandro - 13 hr. ago you've left that company right? Reply Share 121 [deleted] 12 hr. ago This same thing happened to me! Except from San Francisco to NYC. When they pulled the, "Before we transfer you to HQ, we need you to write an essay on why you would be more valuable there." I wasn't going to do that, so I turned in my 2 weeks. They were ).

KrookedDoesStuff 17 hr. ago I had that happen once. Was promised by a manager that I'd get a supervisor position, went in, did the interview, she said she had other interviews to do but they were just to go through the motions, and then... ghosted me. Tried to talk to her a few times when I'd see her and she was always busy.

Kind_Session_6986 - 16 hr. ago You can never trust these people. I totally empathize with you because it happened to me too. Promised and had the rug pulled out from under me. I hopped companies and got the title I wanted with a 13k salary increase. Don't settle. You deserve more and this director obviously views you as a threat to play this game. Leave him on his

Fried EggSammich1 16 hr. ago I guess an old experience of mine relates. This was almost 30 years ago & my first job out of college. Been with the company about 4 years under the same manager (who I liked).

Was called in by the VP for some made-up sounding bs story that he had to name an heir-apparent for my bosses role and was I interested. I was confused and worried they were about to fire my boss so my response must have appeared to be not interested in the promotion. Found out a few days later my boss was moving into

a new role of the organization in a different city and the VP was replacing him with someone from the outside. I was heated since his voluntary departure was not previously disclosed and caused me to blow my chance at a promotion. So I left the company within 6 months with a 30% pay raise and without the hassle of being a manager in my mid-20s.

was good to try something new. Got laid off 2 months later due to budget cuts. Couldn't get my old job back either as they'd already hired someone. It's awful how they can just play with people like this.

JadedCloud243 - 6 hr. ago I took over a dept after my boss quit. Improved output and moral. My reward? Someone else given my job undid everything I had done and got paid the correct rate immediately. I had been told to keep up the good work and they would review later.
