How clean is too clean? That's a question that's constantly being posed online, particularly on TikTok, where videos often go viral of people cleaning in a strange way. There is an entire side of TikTok devoted to being spotless; it's called CleanTok, and while some of the videos follow people deep cleaning hoarder houses or other noble pursuits, others are solely focused on finding new ways to deep clean things that don't need to be deep cleaned, generating a never-ending loop of pointless discourse.
We all know the parts of our home we're supposed to clean: the toilet, the floor, the dishes. Things get a little more contentious when you bring up that you wash your meat before cooking it. Now, the conversation has pivoted to asking the question nobody asked: "Should you wash your plastic Christmas tree in your bathtub?" This thing didn't even come from the great outdoors, and yet a TikToker has decided it's worth possibly electrocuting herself by washing her fake tree, Christmas lights, and all, all for the noble pursuit of cleanliness.
