Star Wars fans have been well-fed for 46 years. From feature films to live-action TV to miniseries to video games, the franchise has blossomed over the decades to find resonance for folks of all ages.
My mom recently told me a memory she has of seeing A New Hope the same week that Elvis died. That put things into a strange perspective for me. As Elvis died, a new pop culture phenomenon of equal magnitude was born. 1977 must have been a pretty far-out year. Jimmy Carter was sworn in, Rumors by Fleetwood Mac soared to the top of the charts, and Saturday Night Fever was sparking a disco-dancing revolution in mainstream America. I like to imagine a deleted scene where John Travolta's character, in his snazzy white suit, sitting down to watch Star Wars and it gives him a new perspective on his hero's arc. That's my Star Wars fan fiction. For other out-of-pocket takes, check out this week's Star Wars meme list below.
