It's a bit awkward to ask your partner to do an expensive romantic gesture for you. Usually, it has to come from within. When I was in high school, I was dating a Jewish person and decided to get them eight gifts for all of the eight days of Hannukah. If you're Jewish, you know that the gifts given for Hannukah are typically not the most elaborate, but as a born and bred secular person, I had no clue that that was the case. So naturally, I spent basically all of the money I had left from my summer job on these eight presents for them, which culminated with flowers on the eighth day that I had to drive to three different packed grocery stores to buy. It was all worth it, though, because I knew that I put in a lot of effort to make my partner's holiday extremely special.
One couple recently went viral after the bookworm of the relationship asked his boyfriend to get him 12 books and wrap them for him for a "12 days of Christmas" type situation. When his boyfriend said "no way," the people on Twitter had very mixed reactions.
